I think given our lifetimes and how much money we make and spend, putting $1000 on credit for a computer does not qualify as a huge purchase you can not afford.
Especially since you can afford it. You'll be making payments monthly just like I make payments on my car and everyone else in this country does with credit cards.
I don't have the book in front of me but I think the idea is that the one purchase should be so devastating that you really can not afford it. That you would actually have to drastically change your lifestyle to deal with the debt you incur by purchasing it. Like selling the house you live in. Or putting your wife out to work. Or filing bankrupty. Or something.
