Hi all,
Here's a reminder about the TMGP support meeting next Monday, June 2nd.
This month's theme is debriefing about seeing doctors, psychologists,
psychiatrists and any health professionals about trans or gender
identity issues.
Here's some of the things we might cover:
* Finding a supportive doctor
* Disclosing trans/gender diverse status to GPs
* Educating doctors and health professionals about gender ID issues
* If you're seeking hormones or surgery, what do you do?
* Negotiating the cost of seeing health professionals, and negotiating Medicare
* Finding emotional support if clinical assessment for GID is difficult
* Negotiating the fear of 'not being trans enough' or not having a 'textbook' case
* If a doctor or health professional acts disrespectfully, what can you do?
* Safer sexual health: negotiating STI check-ups
... and anything else you can think of.
Date: Monday June 2nd. (Please note that TMGP meetings are usually held
on the second Monday of each month, but June's 2nd Monday is a public holiday.)
Venue: Group Study Room, Frank Crean Wing in the City Library, 253 Flinders Lane, between
Swanston & Elizabeth St.
Time: 6pm
NB. Venue is wheelchair accessible with a gender neutral accessible bathroom.
About TMGP support meetings: These gatherings are supportive but informal. People of all ages, backgrounds, and gender identities are welcome. We want to provide a friendly and safe (and fun) space to chat with other people about gender-related issues. We encourage you to come along and talk to us about your experiences. Generally meetings are run by a TMGP member, who might bring along some photocopied resources to take away, or just kick the conversation off at the beginning.
