I wonder if gaunt white men have a genetic predisposition to goth? these kids with NIN shirts on campus all have that same angular face and pallid skin. i'll admit that this is a pretty shallow observation, so maybe next thursday i'll bring a pad and pen to the castle and do anthropological field work. except i won't cuz that was a joke ( Read more... )

I think technically my family is Unitarian but we're pretty much just atheists.

My family is, in fact, Unitarian. Being that I hate church regardless of my (or its) feelings on God, I was never big into it. Plus, the fucking car ride was like an hour and HOLY SHIT. No kid wants to sit in a car for 2 hours on Sunday to sit at church for a couple hours. Although, it was through the UU church that I first learned that I love Jews (we had to visit churches of other faiths as part of the Sunday School program). But anyway, you'd probably like it. My dad loves it, though isn't active. My mom runs the book club for the Spirit of Life church in Odessa. http://www.spiritoflifeuu.org/

PS Maybe in Tampa Saturday. As usual, we'll see. But to be fair, you didn't call last time.

I checked out Spirit of Life's website yesterday and it's a very cool organization. I like that they have their services outside, but Odessa's a little far when the other one is ten minutes away

I don't believe in God anymore but I kind of like going to church. To sound like a total moron, it's a really comforting setting and everyone is almost inhumanly kind.

In other news, I want to see you sometime in late December when I'm in New Port Richey and hating it. You game?

Well I have this scholarship that I got in high school that required me to meet with a volunteer-mentor each week for an hour each week for all of the four years before I graduated. He was a pretty rad dude and I can tell you stories later if you want. But the point is that he and his wife were, indeed, Unitarian Universalists. Dean and I talked a couple times about religion and stuff and he said that his basic outlook on life is that people can be good and should good to one another while we are on this Earth; regardless of chosen religion. He was pretty cool.
