Why are the determinants for social value so vacuous? I feel like the system of human relationships is a marketplace where, instead of the exchange of goods and services, desirous interests, social position, and the absorption of art confer value ( Read more... )

sounds like horkheimer and adorno blasting post-modernism. and others talk a lot about stuff like this so you're not alone. this is jocine also. did my last paper for my crit issues class, probably one of the best classes i've had so far. let's talk about this stuff, seriously.

I can't wait to spend time this summer reading theory. I've heard a lot of great things about Adorno and, yeah, from what I've read already by Baudrillard, he deals with a lot of contemporary social analysis
