Why I left my first agent (or did she leave me?)...

If you'd like to know the answer to that teaser, I'm dishing the dirt (more like picking off lint balls) on a guest post over at Mindy McGinnis's blog, Writer, Writer, Pants on Fire, tomorrow.

Please join me there for some insights into when is a good time to throw in the towel with an agent and brave the big bad query waters again.

(can't comment on the other post from this computer)

I think yours sounds like a textbook case - you want to write something your agent does not want to rep. That doesn't mean either of you is 'wrong' just that you have different and conflicting visions.

Exactly. We just didn't fit. So we both had to move on. I still think the world of her, and always will, because she's the first agent who ever saw something worth going out on a limb for, and you just don't forget that kind of faith. ;-)

I think it's like any relationship - if you realise that you're a bad fit, however fond you are of each other, it's time to go. Much better to part while you're still friends, and you can buy her a drink the next time you meet and have a great conversation about your respective successes, than to keep trying and end up hating each other.
