I just had my first phone interview- with a Canadian school offering 6-month contracts to teach in Southern China. I'd be done by January, 2011, with a probable offer to sign on for the next year. The interview, I think, went really well. I was kinda nervous, but they seemed like friendly folks and by the end all was groovy ( Read more... )

Sweetie, can't you get a job teaching Chinese to Canadians?
A gig anywhere but Asia? I should be hearing about Sicily soon, will get back to you. I'm trying!

I'm trying! I'm still applying to every job in Europe that I'm even remotely qualified for, though since I'm not really eager to teach in Turkey, the Czech Republic, Russia, or Poland, my options are limited. And I'd only want another 6 months anyways- just enough to tide me through 'til Spring.
I'd love to teach Chinese to Canadians, but most places really want some higher-level education before they'll listen to you. Hence the grad school!

10,000 homes in Fayetteville lost power when a snake climbed the utility pole to get a bird's nest, guess he got fried. In Greece the main throughway has been closed for days due to frogs covering the road, must be slippery.

Donovan spent time on one of the former Soviet lands (Do I remember which one? No. Maybe Georgia) Anyway, he said it was beautiful, friendly, and always looking to hire teachers. You should write him - I think he may have connections there. By the way - missed you at ROS, everyone says hi, more in an email... - HD

Honestly, I've seen lots of ads for teachers in former Soviet lands. I'm not anxious to sign up. Didn't they just have a big refugee thing in Georgia? Aren't they still loaded with land mines? They use Cyrillic letters, and have very cold winters. I don't know if I'd get Christmas off to visit home or what, but at least in China I speak the language and won't get blown up if I go hiking.

I don't know about any of that - he said it was great. That's a good place to start. Why not get the details from him, and then decide? It's a cute little planet, mostly harmless!
