The wingnuttiest comment I saw today was this:
I’m just disappointed that absolutely NO black people are to be seen in ANY protests. Just because Obama’s black, doesn’t mean you HAVE to agree with everything he does.

OK so I have something that will probably sound really stupid but I don't care because it's been on my mind for some time now and what else is Livejournal for if not saying stupid shit you really can't stop thinking about?

What I cannot stop my brain from obsessing over is what it must be like to be POC when I, a white chick, am so constantly furious and fucking just filled with despair over race issues and I have the option of just turning my back because I'm white. Does that make sense?

How do you not just blow shit up???

I too am filled with the same despair and outrage and nausea. I think, for me, not blowing shit up has something to do with the fact that they incarcerated me early in life, and anything radical like that I could do would be chalked up to "the crazy". That, and fucking shit up would most certainly land me in jail, and I remember too well what psych juvie was like.

In other words, I've been deterred.

But these guys? Products of the failing and underfunded school system and pseudochristian jingoism. The world made me scared and angry, too. But see, MY parents weren't brother and sister. :P

I saw a black guy at one of these protests in Arizona. He was the one with the AR-15 rifle strapped to his back. I'm serious ( ... )

I dunno, hon. "All White Affair" screams KKK rally and/or Cracker Barrel to me. I think it's probably just me being uppity and pushy, but I'm almost to the point where I look at white folks and if they don't have black relatives, they should very fucking well have a black friend or two, at least. Whether they're racist or not. Black people and racists have occasionally managed to be friends. Just look at Archie Bunker and Sammy Davis Jr!

Yeah, rich people are almost always going to be able to afford a better doctor. It's just something that's bound to happen in a free market. But if we WANT a free market (I'm not convinced we have a free market, but that's another argument for some other time) we put up with the idea that someone's going to get more than us.

It's because we want to live in a Meritocracy, but all of us have different standards of "deserves".

"All White Affair?" There are black people at these rallies. Not many, but they are there ( ... )

Sadly there are a few black folks at this rally. Not sadly because I don't think black folks should criticize the President, I agree with Rev. Wright that they should, but sadly because I wonder how little self-worth you have to ally yourself with a movement that uses confederate flags in a non-ironic fashion.
