Winry was born to two surgeons and in her early years, her father’s grandmother also lived with them. They lived next to the Elric brothers, so she grew up with them and counted them as her closest friends. Her parents ended up leaving her to go to the front lines of the Ishval Civil War. She continued to live her live as bravely as she could with her Grandmother, until news reached them, that her parents had been killed. Winry was then in the care of her grandmother and was where she started her love for automail.
Her grandmother crafted automail for the people of the town. One of Winry’s pastimes was reading medical books, so that helped her to become infatuated with automail and other machinery as well. She was only ten when she was able to make her own. She had a great shock, when Ed and Alphonse tried to bring their mother back with the science of alchemy. Alphonse, in his suit of armor body, holding a bleeding and dying Edward ended up on Winry’s doorstep. With her Grandmother’s aid, they were able to perform surgery to save Ed’s life.
Later, when State alchemist try to recruit Ed and Al, Winry tried to dissuade them from joining. She was afraid that they would die, just like her parents had when she was younger. She was reassured however, by Lt. Hawkeye and ended up convicing her to support her friends no matter what decisions they make. Edward decides to join and Winry and her grandmother crafted him automail for his arm and leg. Winry shows her skills as she creates Edward’s automail completely from scratch so she can make it as perfect as possible. Everytime Edward ruined her hard work, Winry rushed to where he was, in order to fix it. It’s her job as his personal automail mechanic.
Winry had been in Rush Valley where she was the apprentice under Garfiel and after awhile, she returns to Central where they learn that Hughes had been murdered. Winry had stayed with them on her last visit where she had learned to make pies with his wife and daughter. Edward ended up finding Scar and he discussed the slaughter of Winry’s parents unaware of the fact that she was standing right there. She pulled out a gun and she aimed it at him, but Ed jumped in front of her to protect her from Scar. He told her that her hands weren’t’ meant to kill and he ends up taking the gun from her. On the train ride back to Rush Valley, she realized that she was falling in love with Edward.

[ Personality ] :
Winry is an extremely intelligent and lovely young lady. She loves learning about machinery and becomes giddy when she’s able to go to a conference. She enjoys learning any and everything about automail. When Dominic pointed out that Ed’s automail was so heavy, that it might be stunting his growth, Winry was willing to become his apprentice. He doesn’t accept her but Garfiel does and he starts teaching her other techniques. She’s always willing to travel long distances. When she wants to do something or perfect it, she puts her whole heart into it.
She is also strong-willed, stubborn and straightforward. She has no qualms of calling out people’s issues, weaknesses or delusions. Although, she’s more tactful about doing it then Edward, her honesty is something that she usually only shares with her friends. She’s able to make hard and life-changing decisions easily, but her only demand is that it has to coincide with her heart. She will never tarnish her strong sense of morality and duty. She’s very kind and empathetic and she tries her best to help everyone around her. When other people are upset, she tends to cry since she’s sensitive to their pain. She worries about her friends and her caring nature is why many of her clients love her. She believes that family always takes priority over everything else.
Although she’s sweet, kind, empathetic and hard working, there’s a side to her that Ed and Al tend to see. Her temper once sparked, can turn into a dangerous tantrum of violence. She tends to throw wrenches with terrible accuracy when she’s angry. If she’s insulted, hurt or embarrassed, she will lash out in anger.
[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
Strengths
Her greatest strength is by far her intelligence and her willing to learn new techniques. This allows her to gain more information and to improve her techniques so she can help her friends. Her desire to help allows her to travel long distances to help her friends and her strong-willed personality allows her to be in situations that although, dangerous, does not deter her in the least.
Weaknesses
Her major weakness is her anger. It’s easy to indict and when it is, it can be violent. Although usually filtered towards Al and Ed, she has been to known to through wrenches at them with deadly accuracy. She also tends to be deadly honest, although she’s smart enough to usually leave this for Ed and Al as well.

She can bake pies. She was taught by Hughes’s wife how to do it and apple pies are her favorite to make.

She was wet…more like soaked. “Geez Ed, did you have to get me so wet? Do you have any idea how uncomfortable wet clothes are?” she grumbles as she continues to keep her eyes closed. When silence answers her, she opens her eyes and looks around her. “Ed?” She calls out as she sits up. “What! Oh no! Where am I! What’s going on!”
Winry stands and stares around her. Nothing looks familiar! Although, it definitely still looked like a city, it looked nothing like Central. She suddenly remembered that she had been on the train going back to Rush Valley but this...didn’t look like Rush Valley at all. “This is bad…this is very bad.” She couldn’t help but to mutter to herself as she continued to stare at the buildings.
She tried to calm herself down but she wasn’t sure what had happened. She might have fallen asleep on the train but this place didn’t look familiar at all. Everything seemed different! How did this happen! “This is just weird. What happened and were are Ed and Al?’ She hoped that they were safe but knowing them, that wasn’t very likely. She sighed as she decided to start walking towards a store. Hopefully she can find someone who can answer a few questions and at least tell her where she is.
