I'm way too tired to follow this right now, but I'll look again in the morning. What I'd also like to see is a system of voting based on ranking your top (say) three or four candidates rather than just picking one. This would allow you to vote for fringe parties such as the NDP and the Green party without "throwing away your vote", because even if the NDP doesn't win, your lesser-choice candidates (which are perhaps more mainstream) will get your vote as well.

Of course, since voting Green would no longer be "throwing away your vote", that in itself might make the Greens more popular, thus making it cease to be throwing away your vote even in the system we have now.

I agree. The more nuanced the polling, the better represented we will be. I'd go one further and say we should be given a binding vote on single issues... but that's too far off to even think about.
