A public entry? It must be a rant! Say yes to manned space flight!

Yesterday was my day off, and since I follow all things NASA on twitter, I happened to know it was a tentative launch day. The way my schedule works at the Hitch, I often find myself home for launches, and I try and catch them all on NASA TV. In some ways, unfortunately nearly all of them negative, the loss of the Columbia made America take a ( Read more... )

In my short time at Kennedy, I got to go inside the VAB and launch control for a couple days. The launch control building is exactly how you would imagine it from movies. The inside looks like it hasn't changed since the 1960s. Dimmmly lit hallways with linoleum floors, old banged up furniture crammed in the corners ( ... )

I agree with you, there is something extremely awe-inspiring about watching a space ship take off. It really is one of the most amazing - if not the most - scientific feat to propel a human off the planet.

I don't understand the people who rail about the danger of manned space flight. It's not like we're flinging itinerants willy-nilly into orbit. We have a corps of trained, consenting adults, happy to sit on a ton of rocket fuel for the chance of a trip into space.

Amen. You'd have to be a complete idiot going in not to understand and respect the risks involved. Astronauts typically aren't dummies.

Yeah, I sort of wish I had majored in engineering, so I could do something with NASA, career wise. I love biology, and I was frightened by the math that engineering required. But, my senior year, last sem, I took an engineering physics course, and I was really impressed with the teaching staff's enthusiasm for helping all the students with that math.

Haha, I googled my name, which brings up all sorts of links for our project, to see if I could find an appropriately dorky project-era picture - and could only find this microscopic one, but we're clearly wearing lab coats, so it counts, lol - I'm in the lefthand bottom corner. :P
