Welcome to your new (intensified) climate

Feb 02, 2011 20:47

Many of my friends back in the "old country" are dealing with what is being called "Snowpocalypse-2011"- a massive blizzard / winter storm spreading across the nation with up to an inch of ice and one to two feet of snow.

I joke that Australia should nickname itself "Land of the Apocalypse", but it's not really funny. Fires, floods, and now this? I often wonder if maybe Australia, the land, doesn't want to be inhabited.

I only personally know one person who lives in QSLD at present, and she's evacuated Townsville. But by the looks of the weather maps, there doesn't seem to be many safe places in the state.

I'm glad your safe.

I should have clarified. Australia reminds me a lot of California in the sense that it really cannot sustain the large 'modern' populations it has.

And ack! *You're* safe!

***I think Any land that can 'remember' freedom from the tramping Hoards of humans does not want that---some places do not mind being gently farmed---but That style of agriculture seems as endangered, many places, as natural habitats...

(a few cows are not as good as Only native critters, but better than Mono-crops, which are not as bad as suburbs)

Sending good thoughts and vibes your way! We have just over 1.25in of ice on the ground, and they've put Vigo County at a level 1 emergency. Has been that way since last evening.

Compared to what's headed (already there?) your way, what we've endured is nothing. I will keep a weathered eye on the news to stay abreast.

Be well and stay safe!!

Let me add to the well wishes -- can we ever have enough of them?

I hope you and yours are safe and well!
