School Information, Rules, and Activities/Electives:

Autumn Flowers Academy for Young Women is a small boarding school that welcomes all girls age 11 to 18. It is located in a beautiful valley town far from the stress and ruckus of the settings most of these girls come from. Although we are located in England, we welcome girls from all over the globe and have a fairly large amount of students from North America. Since we understand that many of our students are used to a different type of environment, we try our best to make them feel at home with our tradition and even try to house their own. Each year, we try to add electives and after-school activities that our students from other countries will enjoy.

Our school grounds consist of three floors of dorms, a cafeteria, a gymnasium, two floors of classrooms, a patio for students to study and socialize in during the warmer seasons, an auditorium, fields designated for certain summer sports, common rooms and game rooms on each floor, and a large library. Each floor holds 20 dorms.

Dorms are to be shared with two girls and two girls only. The furniture in each dorm room is one bed and bedside table per girl. Students may decorate the walls with anything that will not do great damage to them. Students may also bring in any thing they would like to have in the room, as long as it is not a device used for cooking or anything that may start a fire. It is suggested that girls do not bring much furniture because the rooms are not exceedingly large. Bathrooms are located in each hall and these are where the girls are expected to get dressed and take showers in. Students will not always be roomed with other girls in their year, but roommates will never have more than a two year age difference between them. Siblings may share a room regardless of age difference, but sisters do not have to be roommates. Roommates will change at the start of every school year as will the dorm students stay in. During summer school, if two roommates both stay in summer school, they will keep their dorm until the official start of the new school year. If one roommate has left but the other is away for the season, she may be moved to a new dorm with another who doesn't have a roommate for the season or the other girl will be moved to her room. After the students leave their dorms, the dorm will be checked for any damage or markings. If a dorm has either, each girl who was staying in it will be charged.

We understand that some of the girls in our school may be of the homosexual orientation, but girls caught showing public affection with each other will be punished. We do not tolerate that sort of behavior in this school. Any girls caught touching each other wrongly or doing anything sexual will be severely punished and have their parents contacted immediately. Those who are indecent enough to be caught fornicating on school grounds may even be expelled. This school is for enriching our student's minds, not feeding their lust. Drugs and alcohol are also not allowed on school grounds. Anyone found with either of these will face punishment. Those who are found with them multiple times may be expelled. As with those listed above, violence is not welcomed on our campus. All arguments should be taken to a member of our staff to help the students envolved deal with. Verbal or physical attacks will also face punishment. We want to make sure this school is safe for all who attend.

Each day the girls' classes will officially start at 7:30. Students are only excused from class if they have special permission either from a nurse due to sickness or from a parent/guardian. For a student to be excused from class with parent/guardian permission, the parent/guardian must contact the school at least five days in advance unless it is an emergency. Girls are expected to be back in their rooms by 9:00 at the latest each night. The only exception for a student to be out late at night is to use the rest room. Students are not allowed to stay in others' dorms at night. On the weekends, girls years 7 to 9 may stay out of their dorm until 10:30. Older girls may stay out until 11:00.

At our school, we strongely encourage our pupils to get involved with one or more of activities or sports that we have to offer. Girls may be in after-school sports and/or clubs or even take a few electives. Students may only be able to take electives if they take classes the summer before at summer school. For each class they take during summer school, they will be allowed an elective. No more than 4 electives may be taken each year. For girls taking multiple after school activities, staff will work with you to see how you can fit all of them in your weekly schedule. Some after-school activities may be at the same time, so students may have to choose between certain clubs or sports. We understand that sometimes after-school activities can have an effect on a pupil's grades. If students involved in after-school activities get below average grades in a majority of their non-elective subjects, they may be ordered to cease participation in after-school activities until their grades rise. Below you will find a list of the electives, clubs, and sports our pupils may participate in.

School starts the first of September and ends June 30th. Along with some days off for holidays and teacher's institute, there will be three "breaks". Fall break takes place the week of Thanksgiving. Winter break takes place the week of Christmas and the two weeks following (students celebrating other winter holidays that occur before winter break have permission to leave for winter break early). Spring break will take place the week of Easter and the week that follows it. Summer break lasts July and August unless students are taking summer school. Summer school will be available for those who are taking electives or have classes they have to re-take. Girls may only stay at the school during the summer if they are in summer school. Since in most cases there are less classes for the girls, classes will be longer because of the fewer amount of days. Classes will also have more work for the pupils, just to make sure they are fully caught up. Summer school starts a week after the regular school year and ends two weeks before classes resume. Those two weeks are for the girls to visit home. We strongly encourage parent visits during summer school.

We hope all our students have a wonderful school year. If you have any questions, please contact a staff member.
