Whoa, long time no hear! Hahaha, of course, I don't have a myspace account, so that would probably be why. In any case, nice to hear from you again.

I am neither a programmer nor a nurse, but my impulse is to say "go with the one you'll hate least", if you aren't terribly enthusiastic about either of them. Reading between the lines of your post, this:

it's probably more suited to my personality than nursing isseems to indicate that you're leaning more heavily toward programming, so I'd go with that. Plus, your proximity to Seattle means there's probably at least SOME spillover of career opportunities into your immediate area ( ... )

hi! yeah, i should get back into updating this thing. i haven't had much of an online presence, truth be told. too involved with rl, i guess ;)

i'm really not sure which i'd hate least. that's my dilemma ;)

nursing would dovetail more with my ultimate plans (being a naturopathic doctor), but programming would be easier to pursue (primarily because of online classes).

I think you should look at nursing. For a few reasons. One yes it definately does tie in more with your long term career plans than programming does. Two and more importantly, it is a career field that no matter what is stable and will need people in. Programming can easily be hit by the economy and we certainly know where things stand in that area right now (pretty much in the toilet). So if you are faced with choosing one of these options that are not your passion and your goal is to find something that generates income for your family, I would choose the path that will guarantee you a good solid income and that you will know for certain has openings available. heck in MA (I'm in MD right now with my parents)... they are giving sign on bonuses for nurses at the local hospitals. We're talking pretty big bucks too when it comes to those bonuses! Just my two cents ( ... )

i definitely think nursing is more meaningful than programming, so to speak. my only reluctance with it is a fear that i'll be so frustrated by working in conventional medicine, when my passion is naturopathic medicine. if i could get a job working with a natural practice, that would be outstanding. i'm afraid i'll have to work in a conventional medicine setting and have to bite my tongue constantly over things i disagree with. that's the only thing that keeps me from feeling more passionately about it.

actually, if i could become a CNW and work in a natural practice, i would be just about as passionately happy about that as i would be about becoming a naturopathic doctor.

thank you for your input :) it really helps. and nursing is the way i'm leaning, i think.
