I am going to take a step from the normal approach on this one. On any given day I would say go for the friends and family, you can laugh, hang out and be merry.
But, with the way you described this other particular gathering, I would say go for it. Just looking at the words you used to describe it is enough motivation for me. And honestly, I don't even know what that sort of gathering is.
That's just my observation. In whatever you choose to do you will be surrounded by good peole and wonderful times. So no choice will be the lesser one.

Would you feel any regret not going to one of them? Which one is a one time offer?

It would be regretful to miss either of them, and they are both only held once a year.

Ours is not a one time offer. Ours is low pressure. Ours is the one where we'd feel bad if you had to make a tough choice and missed out on something important to you. Ours is the one where we'll take no offense if you went another way. So you do what's best by you, and no worries!

However, if you do want to come, blkw1d is talking about doing something for the holiday, so it may not be an entirely "secular" event here after all.

mind you... i have never done anything like this own my own. i have participated, but not lead. any help is greatly appriciated(sp?). and if you would like i can give you a role here as well. its up to you. as the hubby said... no pressures and no worries. you would be missed, but we don't want you to miss something that is important to you. others are going to a circle else where that night as well and will miss the party. it's ok. we just love this holiday and invited everyone to come and celebrate with us. that doesn't mean you have to come. k... now i am babbling. we will love you still no matter what you decide.

*sigh* well it looks like I'm going to the ritual. I hope you guys have fun. I'm sorry I won't be there. I really wanted to be, I just feel like I need to go to this other thing. I will send extra hugs with Tam and Amber.
