I am not having an unprovoked feminist fit here, I am passing on something that needs to be said, in light of recent events. A girl who lives in MY building was raped in a car Saturday night in the parking lot I cross every day. I am so sick of rape being portrayed as a woman's problem. Guess what, boys, it's NOT

i agree that men should definitely pick up some of the slack here, especially with reporting things (i'm appaled that some guys think it's normal and let their rapist friends go unreported), but i think women being stupid enough to put themselves in sitautions where rape is likely is a MUCH more important issue.

i don't really have sympathy for a girl getting drunk and passing out at a large party where she is basically anonymous and getting raped.. i'm not saying anyone deserves to be raped, i'm just saying, what did she think was going to happen when she passed out with a bunch of strangers?

i guess it's because i'm not trusting and i try to stay safe with everything i do, but i just can't feel bad for someone when they put themselves in a situation where something like that can happen to them. but women getting raped in their own homes, walking to their cars, while jogging, or while doing any activity where they did not put themselves right in harm's way INFURIATES me.

i definitely understand/agree with what you're saying.
rape is a reality. and that needs to change.
but in the meantime, yes, we do need to be careful, and that's a sad fact.
but we also need to reverse centuries of the shame being put on the victim, and we need to educate boys and men how to fucking behave.
