Paternal Instincts and Zombies
#050. Lost, Heechul/Kyuhyun
Fic: 10/100
A/N: Beta-ed bytrixteratheart I started writing this around the time Sungmin got his new cat. lol Took me a while to finish.

Heechul was in a panic. Well…panic would actually be an understatement because he COULDN’T FIND HEEBUM!

“WHERE THE HELL IS MY PRECIOUS BABY?!” Heechul literally screeched as he tore the dorm apart looking for his beloved blue-haired cat. Cushions flew from the sofa, joining a pile of fallen CDs and DVDs. He just couldn’t understand how he had managed to lose Heebum. It was Heebum for God’s sake! An utter princess by his own right. The most he did in a day was stroll around the dorm, searching for members. If he found them, he would rub up against their leg until they picked him up and showered him with the attention he deserved. If he didn’t, he would just laze around all day.

And this was exactly why Heechul couldn’t understand how he lost Heebum. That cat was as much of an attention whore as he was which meant he would be twisting himself around Heechul’s ankles as soon as his name was called. Only…he wasn’t and now Heechul had proceeded into the kitchen, pulling out plates and bowls from the cabinets; haphazardly tossing them on the counter. Luckily, none of them broke, though a few seemed to have acquired cracks that conveniently blended quite nicely with their design.

“Aish!” Heechul finally snapped, stomping his foot in frustration. Gritting his teeth, he quickly scanned the apartment again. It now laid in utter chaos and Leeteuk wasn’t going to be too happy when he came home, but Heechul couldn’t care less at that point. He just wanted to find his beloved baby…and make sure he instilled the fear of God in him so he would not disappear on him ever again.

And then it occurred to him. Downstairs! What if Heebum had made his way downstairs?

Without any further pause, Heechul sprinted out of the dorm, not caring that he was wearing his strawberry pajama set or that his hair was a complete mess. Somehow, he managed not to tumble head first down the stairs as he burst out into the 11th floor hallway but a few seconds later.

“YAH!” he shouted, kicking the door in (well, not really, but you get the point) and entering the 11th floor dorm.

From the couch, Kyuhyun didn’t even bother to look away from the television and proceeded to shoot down another two zombies, the detailed graphics of bloody bits of flesh and brains splattering across the screen.

“No one’s here, hyung,” he said tonelessly as he maneuvered himself over a corpse. “Try back in an hour.”

Heechul stomped over to the couch. “I’m not in the mood for your humor, magnae!” he snapped, stopping right in front of Kyuhyun and crossing his arms. “I can’t find Heebum!”

Kyuhyun leaned to the right, looking around the princess and continued his quest against the undead. “Who?”

With a gasp, Heechul smacked the singer upside the head which barely earned him a half-hearted glare. “Are you listening to me, magnae?! I. Can’t. Find. Hee. Bum.” With that, he marched to the TV and unplugged the game console with a swift tug.

“…” Kyuhyun stared as the screen went black and the sounds of exploding flesh abruptly ended.

“…you did not just do that,” he stated, refusing to blink.

“Yes, I just did. Now TELL ME WHERE HEEBUM IS!”

“How the hell am I suppose to know?!” Kyuhyun asked angrily. He tossed the console off to the side and stood up. “He’s your damn cat.”

“Yeah, well now you’re going to help me find him,” Heechul informed the magnae, grabbing him as he tried to walk past.

“As if!” Kyuhyun snorted, glaring at his hyung. “I was about to beat my high score when you pulled the plug.”

“Are you insinuating that your game is more important than my cat?” There was a deadly gleam in Heechul’s eyes, but if Kyuhyun saw it, he didn’t care.

“Hey, it’s your cat, not mine.”

A few moments later, Kyuhyun was wrapped around his hyung like a koala, who was trying to get to the bathroom with the magnae’s precious game system in hand.

“I am going to flush this thing down the toilet!” Heechul hissed, trying to untangle himself from Kyuhyun and move forward at the same time.

“It’s not going to fit, hyung!” the singer panted, attempting to somehow trip Heechul while still holding on to the slim body. Who knew the actor had so much strength in him? “You’re going to break the toilets if you try to flush that and then you’re going to have to deal with Teukie-hyung.”

“Ha! I’ll just tell him it’s your fault!” Heechul somehow managed to wrap his fingers around the doorframe and was now trying to pull himself into the bathroom.

“What are we, five?” Kyuhyun asked incredulously. “Are you really going to play the blame game?”

“If you don’t find my cat, we are!”

Right at that moment, Kyuhyun managed to throw the older man off balance and they both tumbled to the floor in a heap just outside the doorway.

“Finding your cat has nothing to do with me, hyung! Just give me back my playstation!” the singer implored, using his weight (or lack there of, really) to pin Heechul (who probably weighed even less) to the ground.

“Never!” Heechul exclaimed, holding the game system just out of reach.

“Hyung will you just-” Suddenly, Kyuhyun stopped speaking, staring at something off to the side. Heechul promptly took advantage of the silence.

“What nothing to say?”

The singer slowly shook his head. “No. I found you’re cat and I don’t think he’s too happy with us,” Kyuhyun answered dryly.

Heechul bent his head back a bit and sure enough, Heebum was sitting quietly on the hardwood floor, his tail swishing silently behind him.

“Heebummie!” Heechul crowed, throwing Kyuhyun off with surprising ease. A small “oof” escaped from the singer’s lips when he landed hard on his side. “Come to mommy. I’ve been looking everywhere for you!”

Heechul reached out to pick up his cat only to falter when Heebum sent him an icy glare, not unlike the type mothers gave to people who were harassing their children.

“Hyung, I think the cat might be scarier than you,” Kyuhyun commented as he pushed himself up, gingerly rubbing his injured arm.

“Shut up!” Heechul snapped at the magnae before turning back to his pet. “Heebummie, what’s wrong?”

The cat blinked once slowly before turning his head and rising to his feet. He quietly padded away and Heechul quickly followed. A few more seconds past and then Kyuhyun picked himself up and followed as well.

“Will you look at that,” Kyuhyun said quietly, peering over Heechul’s shoulder. They were right outside Sungmin and Kyuhyun’s shared room. “I think your cat found his paternal instincts.”

Sure enough, the blue cat was hovering over Sungmin’s new kitten, Hyaku, grooming the small kitten with his sandpapery tongue. Hyaku gave a small, pitiful ‘mew’ and scrunched his face up not unlike a child being cleaned by his mother.

“This…is…so….” Heechul trailed off, face expressionless. Instinctively, Kyuhyun took a step back, knowing his hyung’s volatile moods very well. “PRECIOUS!!!” the actor exploded, clasping his hands together. “Wait till I tell Sungmin! Wait! No! First a picture! Where’s my camera!” Luckily, Kyuhyun was already out of the way because the next thing Heechul did was spin around and run full speed out of the dorm to get his camera.

“Meow.” The disapproving sound came from Heebum who had positioned himself so he was shielding little Hyaku from his loud owner. All Kyuhyun could do was shrug, looking sheepish under the parental glare.

“What can I do?” he asked helplessly, “It’s Heechul-hyung.” And then he realized he was talking to a cat.
