I saw anyone who can be trusted with hand grenades should be trusted with a beer.

18 years of age is the requirement for registration for Selective Service. Hence it should be the age of full majority--beer, renting cars, cigarettes, voting, jury duty, etc, etc, etc.

A 17 year old who has completed initial entry training in the Armed Forces should also be considered a legal adult.

Traditionally, political rights have been closely linked to military service. I wouldn't mind a drinking age of 18, but democracies are, after all, all about compromise.

Actually I wouldn't even mind a drinking age for non-distilled beverages of 16 and a purchase age of 18.

Effects of drinking are worse the younger you are. What about making drinking a privilege like driving and gun ownership--you have to take classes and pass tests about "responsible drinking," effects of alcohol, etc., get a license, and if irresponsibility is shown, the license is revoked?
