i'm looking to have my photos published into a coffee table book. as it stands, it will cost me (or a book publisher) $22,000 to $38,000 to have it printed, bound and sent to me

Holy cow! What makes it cost so much? Because of all the color prints? /ignorance

yes, the color, the binding, the paper, etc. i plead ignorance! i didn't realize they would be that expensive, but publishers who give $100K advances to some of these authors count on that $ to be used for surviving because it costs so much. a utility co that went with my printer to have their annual reports done spent $885,000 for 100,000 books. yikes.

How many copies would that get you?

1000 copies, and on the high end, 5000 i believe.
