While it was an emo episode, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I find Matt Smith to be such a refreshing departure from Tennant's Doctor (the King of Poor Poor Pitiful Me) that he could have stood around eating fish sticks and custard for another 60 minutes and it would have been an improvement.
And I actually had to pause the show (I DVRed it) to look up where I'd seen Liz 10 before. She played Sithandra, the four handed friend of Aeon in the Aeon Flux movie with Charlize Theron.
Did anyone else really like the younger version of Amy Pond? I think the Doctor could have done at least three episodes with her (she had sass) and then have some sort of convenient memory wipe at the end.
Oh, and I'm thrilled they got Ian McNeice to play Winston Churchill. He played the Baron Vladimir Harkonnen in the recent Sci-Fi channel remake of Dune. And he's one of my favorite actors.
You must have missed my discussion of the first episode. I adored young Amelia, and lamented her being used so briefly. She and the Doctor had a chemistry that is like lightning in a nottle. Very hard to catch.
I wonder what brittish fans think of a black woman playing playing the Monarch. I understand completely what they were trying to convey in the choice of actress. However, I have ZERO doubt that if William attempted to marry a woman of color...another visit to a certain tunnel in France would be arranged.

And I was being nice when I said 'derivative'. It really did feel like a boilerplate, as you stated.
