I watched the two of them disappearing in the massive crowd. Suddenly I felt the slightest worried. Should I? Yes, of course, why shouldn’t I? I sneered sideways on Tom, but he didn’t move a face. I stood up on my toes, in hope to have a glimpse of my two best friends. And indeed - there was the gold stranded tuft. Styled as never before (did he ever get tired of those sodding hair products?!).

As I had well found Dom, there couldn’t be any problems finding the other one. Could I’ve been more right? Matt, clinging onto Dom’s shoulder as if he was afraid even getting near something else, would never be more than one step from Blondie. (And oh how I wish that statement was such overkill, but nu-uh).

“Shall we?” Tom said and turned to me.

Damn, not a single sign of worrying in his glance! How was this man even able to be as calm?! This was actually Matt and Dom we talked about.

“Sure.”

We turned around and started to walk out from the hectic airport and to Tom’s car.

“You sure they will be ok?” I said.

“Chris,” Tom said maturely, “you know more than well that they will be ok. They’re just being... irresponsible sometimes. Or at least Matt. I’m sure Dom can handle him for a week, don’t you think?”

I didn’t say anything, but I nodded. It was probably true. Dom was the one who had the best eye on Matt, funny enough. They both used to call me the daddy of us (in which situation Dom happened to be called the mother by Matt. Then I used to say that there was nothing left but a cocky teenager for his part, and voíla - could it be more perfect?).

We drove home in silence, but I think both of us thought the same thing. No matter how little we would admit it loudly, it would be a boring week without them both.

“Ah, finally! A whole week without Tom and Chris!” Matt giggled as he sank down on the flight seat.

Dom chuckled as he put his baggage on the shelf. “I bet they say the same about us at home.”

“Oh, you think? Don’t be so humble now, Dominic.”

Dom rolled his eyes and sat down beside his brown haired friend. He could feel himself relaxing already. A week, a whole week, vacation with Matt in London. It had been Matt’s suggestion, of course. Too much spare time - too little to do, that used to be Matt in a nutshell. As Chris and Tom had run out of money (according to themselves, at least) it had been the two of them only. Dom, who had always fancied London, was excited to show Matt the capital, and he still couldn’t believe that Matt had never been there before.

He looked up from the pamphlet he had found in the pocket on the chair in front of him, just in time to see three girls looking at him and bursting out in girlish laughter, heads together.

He looked at Matt in confusing, this one rolling his eyes.

“What did you do now, Romeo?”

“I um... nothing. I just looked at them.”

“Yeah sure.” Matt continued. “Ever since you had that haircut, people have been like flies around you.”

Dom’s hand automatically flew to his neck. It still felt weird, not having the shoulder long hair he’d have for so long.

“Well, I don’t think it’s because of the haircut, because you’ve been having one as well.” Dom snapped back devilishly.

Matt’s jaw dropped and his eyes narrowed. “You, Dominic Howard, is-...”

“Yeah, yeah, just kidding. Cutie.” Dom added sneakily before it was too late. No point in risking Matt to be grumpy for the rest of the flight, which hadn’t even started yet.

This seemed to slacken Matt a little, but he looked out through the window, pouting.

“Aww, Matt.” Dom said, for some reason having bad guilt. “Don’t be sad. You know I was just kidding. I’m your biggest fan. Yer cute, little fella.”

Matt rolled his eyes, but couldn’t prevent a smile from bursting out over his features.

I could feel it once I stepped inside the hall. Even though my parents were home, the house felt empty. I didn’t know I’d been so used to hear Matt and Dom arguing, or at least just talking, twenty-four hours a day, these last four years we’d known each other’s.

It was our first summer, free from school for evermore, and I really had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. A part of me wanted to break free from the little hole we lived in, see the world or at least move where there was more life. But the other part of me loved Teignmouth. It was, after all, my home, where I had my friends, family and girlfriend.

Jesus, I really should have followed Matt and Dom to London. Then I at least wouldn’t be as bored as I was, one and a half hour after they’d left.

Dom turned his head for the eleventh time that minute, to make sure that Matt was still with him. And indeed, he still sat, on the very same spot in the very same position, chin rested in his palm, onto his suitcase. He turned his head back to the receptionist who fumbled with various keys and electronic cards.

“Here, I think it must be here…” she mumbled to herself.

Dom sighed deeply within himself, secretly wanting to knock the woman to concentration. Like, how hard could it actually be finding a specific key?

And after what seemed to be forever, she held it up.

“Here it is!” she smiled proudly and Dom smiled weakly back.

“Great…” Now would you handle that fucking key over?

And so she did, and Dom headed back to his awaiting friend. Matt looked up and stretched his back.

“Finally! Took you fucking forever, didn’t it?”

“I know.” Dom muttered back. “She said she had lost the key, or something like that. Just let us get to that room and leave our damn bags.”

The boys went to the elevator, reaching their room in tired silence. As they had both newly quit school, also being unemployed and poor, they had to share a twin room for the economical sake.

“So… What do we want to do?” Dom said, kicking his suitcase under one of the bed. “We want to stay here for the rest of the day and explore the city tomorrow, or do we want to-…”

“Sure.”

“Sure, what? Stay here?”

“Ye. I mean, c’mon! We have a whole week to see the town.”

Dom shrugged his shoulders. “I don’t mind. I’m not the one who hasn’t been here before so…”

Matt threw himself on his bed and let out a big sigh. Dom chuckled at the sight of his little friend. Little, referring to his body at least. He noticed that Matt was being suspiciously calm and realised his eyes were nailed at Dom’s own legs.

“Matthew… what are you staring at?”

Matt shook his head and looked up on his friend. “Me, what? Oh, I was just looking at your jeans. They’re… baggy.”

Dom chuckled. “And what do you expect them to be? Skin-tight? In hell! If that day come when I wear skin-tight jeans, I will bloody well ask you to marry me.”

Matt giggled. “Yer right. I can’t even imagine you in something else than baggy jeans. A shame, though skin-tight would probably set off your damn well good-looking legs. And plus, you would ask me to marry you.” He winked.

Dom chuckled again and sat down opposite him on the end of the bed. “Yeah, such a shame. But seriously, who wears skin-tight today anyway?”

“Who knows Dominic, in the future it may be rage.”

“Urgh, don’t even make me think the thought.”

I put my acoustic guitar back on its stand and stood up to answer the ringing phone (why had my family such a problem to really answer that damn invention?).

“Ye, ‘ello.”

There was a loud disturbance on the other end of the line and a sudden thud.

“Hello?” I was really confused. “Hello?”

“Cwiiis?”

I rolled my eyes. “Hi Matt.”

“Hey Dom, he answered!” I heard him from a distance, probably covering the phone with his hand as he called to his roommate. “Cwissie?” He was back again.

“Yes, Matthew?” I said, trying to sound as bored and calm as possible.

There was another rustle with the phone and a low arguing.

“Chris?” It was Dom this time, probably taking advantage of Matt.

“Yeees?” I sighed, quite irritated, yet slightly amused, by their usual behaviour. “Someone care talking properly and telling me how you are?”

“Oh yes, we’re just fine. We’re at the hotel now. Matt wanted to stay here for the rest of the day.”

Oh my, how Matt could it possible be, that lazy bastard? “Remember, dear Dominic, that he’s there to actually see the town, isn’t he?”

“I know, I told him that as well. But you know how he is, that stubborn bastard-…”

“OI!”

I laughed as I heard Matt from a distance. “So how did the flight go? Oh, lemme guess: Matt threw up and had to be cared of by some nice looking air stewardess?”

“No actually he didn’t throw up but-…”

“Tell him,” Matt’s voice again, “Chris, I didn’t throw up! How can you even think something like that, you idiot? What really happened was-…” there was noises again and next time Matt spoke he was at the phone, had Dom pushed aside. “What really happened was that I, Matt Bellamy, had to stand three childish teenager girls who were literally drooling over him all the fucking time. They just wouldn’t leave us alone! Can you believe it? Dom… Dom! I mean, is he even that good looking?”

“I am standing right beside you, wanker.”

“…You would just see them, Chris! Giggling all the time and flirting and-…”

“To answer your question, Matt,” I laughed, “I know more than well that you think Dom is good looking. And I thought you had got used to that back in school.”

I smiled at the memories, Matt always glaring grumpily at the girls surrounding poor old Dom, Matt looking as jealous as he wanted to shoot them down.

“Put the speaker on.” I commanded.

“But Chris, we’re in a hotel-…”

“Just put it on, would ya? It’s annoying when you switch all the time.”

Matt sighed and obviously obeyed. “Happy?”

“Thank you Matt, how much do I owe you for that?”

“I want my hood back…” he muttered.

“You said I could have it.” I pointed out.

“Yea, but I was drunk.”

“I rest my case…” I sighed. “Anyway lads, take care of yourselves now. Seriously, I mean it. I don’t really trust you, and I want you to call me occasionally to make sure that you’re still alive, eh?”

“Sure.” Came Dom’s mature voice. “We will. And you don’t have to worry about Matt; I think I can have a good eye on him for this week. I will be all knackered when we come home again but that’s worth it-… uff.”

His moan and the sudden thud confirmed Matt’s elbow in his side and this one took over.

“Yes, yes daddy, we will be all right. See ya next week, big kisses.”

I rolled my eyes. "Bye, idiots."
