Drabble: You are my Sunshine

Prompt: “You are my Sunshine”
Embry was humming as he stood at the sink washing off strawberries. He was glad Jasper and Seth had given him a little bit of land to build a small, two bedroom cabin about two miles from their house. Embry loved being this close to Luka. Being this close made him one of the first choices for babysitter should Jasper and Seth want to get away for a day or two.
Looking up through the window over the sink Embry smiled at the sight that caught his eye. Coming into the clearing was Seth, in wolf form, with the five year old on his back and Jasper walking alongside them. Luka was wearing his Thomas the Tank Engine backpack on his back, his small hands holding onto Seth’s fur. Embry dried his hands and went out to meet them.
Luka’s face lit up with a smile, warming Embry’s heart. “Hey Em!”
“Hey Luka, ready for two days away from your Daddy and Papa?” Embry questioned.
“You bet!” Luka answered as he slipped off Seth’s back. He started to walk away from his parents without another look back but then Seth whined. Luka turned back and wrapped his small arms around Seth’s muzzle. Seth sighed and closed his eyes. When Luka let him go he went to Jasper and hugged him. “Bye Daddy, bye Papa.”
“Bye little man. Be good for Embry okay? We’ll be back in two days,” Jasper told him. Luka nodded and let go, going to stand by Embry. “Thank you Embry, if you need anything you have our numbers. We don’t plan to go far and can be back in a number of hours.”
Embry nodded. “I doubt we’ll have any problems. I was just fixing up some strawberries for dessert tonight.”
“I packed the capsules in his lunchbox, it’s in his backpack.” Jasper caught his eye and mouthed, He needs a nap.
Embry chuckled and nodded. He knew how Luka could be at times when he didn’t want to take a nap. Kneeling down he let Luka jump on his back and then stood again. “Well you guys better be on your way or you’ll never get to hunt.”
Jasper and Seth nodded, Jasper saying their goodbyes again before they turned and took off. Embry and Luka watched them go before Embry looked over his shoulder at Luka. “So, what do you want to do first?”
Luka looked thoughtful. “I brought my army men.”
“Army men it is then.”
“Yay!”

An hour later Embry hadn’t mentioned anything about a nap but he could tell that Luka was struggling to stay awake. He was sitting on the floor against the wall, his side of the army spread out in a battle formation to his side, facing Luka’s. Without really thinking he started humming again. After a few moments Luka got to his feet and came over to climb into Embry’s lap.
Embry wrapped his arms around Luka, smiling when Luka started sucking his thumb. He didn’t do it much, usually just when he was sleepy or nervous. Another few minutes and he would be able to move Luka to the second bedroom, which had basically become his. As Luka slipped further into sleep, Embry started to sing softly.
“You are my sunshine; my only sunshine, you make me happy, when skies are gray, you’ll never know dear, how much I love you, please don’t take my sunshine away.”
