Better in the worst way

Avasa sat, legs crossed, on the floor of his living room, his wet hair dripping water down his neck and shoulder-blades, a small pool of water surrounding his lean and well-muscled frame. He stared off, looking at paintings on the wall opposite him, a sad smile on his face. Gradually he got to his feet and began towel drying his hair and then ( Read more... )

I'm coming toward the dorm after spending the afternoon in the library. I'd gotten pretty much caught up on my homework, and I'm wondering if I'm going to have the dorm room all to myself again tonight. As I get closer I see Avasa near the door.

"Hey," I say to him when I'm close enough for him to hear me. "Feeling better, I hope?" I figure he wouldn't be anywhere near the dorms if he was still getting too many voices. "I can show you where Dawn's room is, if you want."

"Actually, it's you I came to see," I smile, and then blush an add as an afterthought, "And maybe Dawn."

"I'm feeling much better, thank you. Uh - I can come back later if you needed to finish some homework?" It was an honest question, I haven't caught a flash of her inner voice yet... but not really wanting to, either. This must be what normalcy is.

"No, I pretty much finished up, believe it or not," I say, smiling and wondering what he wants with me. "My room's pretty much right across from hers, if you wanna come up. May as well dump this." I nod at the overstuffed backpack. "Glad you're feeling better, I know Dawn and Cassie were both really worried about you."

I nod in affirmation and open the door in front of me, opening it wide and allowing Janice to walk inside. I take her backpack with my free hand and sling it over my shoulder... she wasn't kidding when she said it was heavy.

I blush and lower my head slightly, "I know--. Which sort of brings me to the reason I'm here," I nod for her to continue down the hallway. "I wanted to thank you for what you did."

"I should say so," I reply, following Janice up the stairs, mentally reminding myself that I have to talk to Jordy as well.

"And in the spirit of friendship, can I ask you to do something for me?" I know I shouldn't ask, she's done enough already. And the parcel under one arm says that I'm bribing her in some way and maybe I am, but I can't exactly ask Dawn for this... not really.

"Sure," I say. I turn down the hall when we reach the top, digging into my pocket for my keys. "Here's my room." Duh, I guess it would be since I have the key to unlock it, I think with an internal eyeroll.

I wait patiently for Janice to let us in her room and set her bag down over to what I assume is her side of the room. There are a great deal of magic books over here, whereas the other side of the room has a really large sword hanging from the wall.

I raise my eyebrow, surprised, and set my own bags down on the floor near my feet. “I was wondering if you could keep an eye on Cassie for me? Just… check in on her?”

I nod. "Actually, I've been meaning to...she wasn't around all last week and I sorta got worried, because she'd been so sick from the plants. I just haven't gotten over there yet." I finally notice he's got some kind of package under his arm, and I wonder what it is. Something for Dawn, probably. "Thanks for carrying my backpack, that thing really weighs a ton."

At the light knock on my door, I get up from my desk and walk over to answer it. "Avasa!" I say, surprised and really, really happy to see him. I smile, leaning up to give him a hug.

I think that made my day. No. No--Yeah. That made my day. "How's my girl?" I ask and then kiss her cheek.

"Your girl is thrilled to see you!" I say brightly. I pull him inside, leaving the door open. "How're you?" I ask, looking him over. "You look like you feel pretty good."

"I do, thanks in great part to seeing you," I smile and take her hands in my own. When Dawn's happy, I'm happy.
