Fun little story. The plot wasn't complex, but it hit all the right notes for its genre, and the main draw was the Toph and Zuko interaction, anyway. Possible "field trips" for the pair are a popular subject, but I liked how this one mimicked the feel of the cartoon so much, which Toph and Zuko bonding more through a shared adventure than grand declarations and commiserations about their past. Both were very in-character with their actions and dialogue, learned how to rely on each other in dangerous circumstances, and saw the honor and steel in each other's personalities.
I also appreciated the chance for Zuko to get even for that War Meeting. Turning the guy who was the catalyst for his humiliation into a possible supporter was the best possible revenge.
Thanks for taking the time to comment. Toph and Zuko interacting as a pair has always been something I wanted to write, especially since they don't have their own field trip to get to know each other better (I guess that's why it's a popular topic in general). I basically wanted readers to feel like they were reading a lost episode, so it's really nice to hear you thought of the cartoon when reading it.
General Bujing was fun to write. I see him as the type to change his plans easily to suit the person in power, so Zuko'll keep him around (even though he won't like it at first).
