Poetry - the gift

This is the gift I gave to suibhne and a branneth for their wedding. I just realized it wasn't here and I really like it.

As is done in tales of old
I give these gifts as I am granted
Let none gainsay these priceless treasures

Your lives shall never come between you
Being one, they bind you close
Your dreams will ne’er be secondary
You build eachothers dreams the most

Your lips shall have no lies upon them
Nor shall your kisses taste turn sour
Your ears shall listen not for cold things
Nor the clock to strike the hour

Let there be no pain between you
Unkind words nor glances cruel
Let no sorrow drive you inside
Build your walls or name you fools

And if you feel your footsteps heavy
Or if despair should cause you pain
There is another soul to catch you
You’ll never be alone again

A hand to hold when impulse strikes you
Kind whispers when the nightmares come
A morning smile when dawn awakens
Small things are only small to some

If you believe in Smiles of God
Well I would say one lingered here
For when you reach for faith in life
I think you’ll find it standing near
