The phone rings the next day while they're lying together in their bed, naked and sweating from recent activities. Mimi doesn't get up, even when her mother's voice starts speaking - until she hears "I told your father about your young man."

She's up and out of bed in about two seconds, running for the phone.

Roger just blinks and props himself up on his elbow, looking after Mimi as if he thinks she may have lost her mind. He's not really understanding why the sudden rush for the phone - he'd heard it, true, but... Well, he figures she'll explain in a bit.

Mimi speaks agitatedly in Spanish for a while, then signs, switching abruptly to English.

"At least tell me he didn't go get the pistol."

Roger squeaks.

"Who didn't get the what?"

He never really learned that it's impolite to interrupt phone conversations. Or just doesn't care.

Mimi covers the bottom half of the phone with one hand and looks at Roger.

"My father has a pistol he likes to scare my boyfriends with."
