Imagine you're surfing on the web, and you come across a post from someone saying "If this is how you do things, then you suck at your job." And you're sitting there saying "hey, wait, *I* do that!" Be honest - what's your first reaction?

actually my first reaction would be oh crap!! what should i do so i won't suck at my job?

it bothers me when things work and i don't know why. it's a little tick of mine, i have to know.....

magic is only a valid excuse if you live in hogwarts.

Exactly!

I can't stand developers who *don't* want to know everything. :) I'm like ".... seriously? This is something you do every day and you don't care about understanding it? Don't want to make it better?"

Fortunately I haven't run into too many of them. But the ones you do run into... you go back to your office and shake your head, or you go to your neighbor's office and you say "can you believe that guy?" :)

ditto! this attitude is what separates the mediocre from the experts. good for you that you choose to be an expert! nobody can steal your cheese away. :)

Yeah, I'm just working every day to try to make my code better. It sometimes runs counter to what my boss wants (more features) but I justify it by saying that making my code better will make future features easier to add, so I'll save time in the long run.

I know if I'm not careful I can turn into someone who never gets anything new done and just refactors the code all day long... but I'm trying hard to keep myself on task and keep adding new things too. :)
