SPOILERS

SHIELD (or maybe just Fury - the film revealed him to certainly be a manipulative asshole) is punishing Clint for his role in Loki's invasion. Their reasoning being that, mind control or not, he still killed SHIELD agents and helped cause a massive amount of destruction - including the death of Agent Coulson. So they've been sending him on increasingly dangerous missions with less and less time in between. If the missions themselves don't kill him, the exhaustion will certainly end up catching up with him.

And none of it is as bad as how much Clint is still punishing himself over the whole debacle. Honestly, he thinks he deserves the punishment.

The rest of the Avengers are not going to stand for this shit. He's one of theirs, and this simply is not acceptable.

(looking for gen, but I'm open to pairings. Although, not really a Clint/Coulson fan.)
