internet access

i've had it with dial-up. it's free, and it used to be somewhat reliable, but it's gone steadily downhill. i get booted every 10 minutes and the other day it actually had the nerve to connect at 9.6. so, anyone have any high-speed providers they can recommend?

tomorrow's the first day of school. bah.

I recently switched from AOL to SBC Yahoo! DSL and have been quite happy with it. The only extra equipment I needed to buy was an ethernet card for my computer which run from $10 to $20 at Best Buy or Circuit City. No extra phone line was needed (internal or external) and I do not use a router. My internal phone lines are 1928 original equipment for the most part (except for the last plug in point).

There are some good deals to be found with cable modems also, but you must have cable service already to get a good deal. I don't have cable service so I had no choice but to go DSL. Several months have passed with SBC Yahoo! and no problems yet.
