anybody know any good banks for checking accounts? without fees. student accounts. no transaction limits. something like that. i finally closed my checking account because of the issues. i didn't want to do it, since i have like 1000 blank checks that i just ordered, but alas.

most banks have free checking, i think... tcf especially (totally free checking!)... bank of america has everything free if you have any kind direct deposit. not sure what's around your area though.

I just opened an account at a new bank, not for dissatisfaction with my old bank, just because I wanted a separate account.

The Charter One banks have a nice free checking account. Free checks, no fees. Right now, if you go to one that's in a Tops Friendly Market, you get a couple extra bonuses. A $20 Tops gift card. And if you sign up for direct deposit in the next 90 days after opening the account, they send you a Mastercard gift card with $100 on it. Nothing wrong with that.

Depends of how far west you want to go. I only know of the one down the street from my house in a Tops in North Ridgeville, one in Tops in North Olmsted (Brookpark Ext.) the I frequent on occassion, and there is a stand along branch around the corner from my work at Columbia and Detroit in Westlake.

Look into credit unions.

there's one for work that's supposed to be really good, but the problem with those for me is the hours... if i ever would actually need to go there, they're never open. like they close early during the week, aren't open weekends, etc. do they have fees?

Generally speaking, credit unions are much better about fees than banks. It varies by institution though.

Most half-decent ones have online banking, as well. I've never found back hours to be an issue. I either drop the check in the mail, or use the overnight depository.
