Online dating?

I have an account on www.myyearbook.com  I go onto it at work because I'm "forbidden" to access facebook or myspace.  Yes, I know - it's kinda pathetic that I created an account on a website to keep me entertained.  Cest la vie.  Twitter alone just doesn't do it for me.  So I go on there to keep from being bored, especially on weekends.

Recommendation:

If you have Skype and/or webcam chat capabilities, that can give your online interactions at least a semblance of something more 'real life'. You can get a lot more about personality and chemistry from Skype-phone conversations and webcam chats than just textboxes on Facebook/MSN/whatever.

Seriously, if you can't afford to visit, and can't really afford to talk on the phone a whole lot, you should (both) invest in webcams/headsets/Skype, as that will be a lot cheaper in the end than phone bills if you are really serious about pursuing a LD relationship over the internet.

Keep your expectations realistic and open to change and you will be fine, regardless of how this ends up turning out. Good luck.

I would at least recommend to have enough chat on phone/skype/webcam (in case you aren't doing that already!) - romantic feelings over e-mails or IM's are too often false :-( And try your best to make it to an off-line meeting some time soon! In any case, good luck with that, and keep us posted!

Long distance relationships can work. Can work. They won't necessarily work out in the long-run, but they can. My roommate (who lives in GA) is in a long distance relationship with a friend of mine who lives in Toronto via webcam/Skype for the most part, and they have worked well for a year. On the other hand, I was in a LDR with a guy in Florida for about nine months before I kind of realized that we weren't that great of a match for each other ( ... )
