Flails at the wonderfulness of this story! So perfectly in character, and very true to the awkwardness of those first few episodes. Well done?

Thank you so much! I was hesitant about how in character this one came across, so I'm glad you think it worked. I figure those first few days/weeks in particular must have been especially difficult, and I don't see Maria as being above bossing Sarah Jane around a little ;) I'm glad you liked it!

Bravo! I enjoyed this immensely! I think you got those awkward ticks of Luke and Sarah quite well!

Leave it to Maria to be the voice of calm. lol.

Thank you very much! They're tricky to write, especially in this in-between stage, so I'm glad you thought it rang true.

lol, no kidding. She kind of had to be in those early days, especially before Clyde showed up!

I LOVE this. The palpable nervousness and brittle, sharp edges she's trying so hard to keep managed...it's so very Sarah. I like the choice to have her living her life but with it deliberately spare. Really excellent work.

ETA: And Maria, managing thing, reassuring, giving a well deserved shove when needed and a sharp reminder that this is both something Sarah can do and something she must do well? Awesome.

That means a lot. Thank you so much! I'm fascinated by Sarah in the earlier seasons especially, but some of those edges are still there as late as season five; she's such a great character to explore.

ETA: And again, thank you! My love for Maria probably shines through here, but I've always seen her as being just as much a rock for Sarah Jane as Sarah Jane was for her. This is pretty obvious in season one, but before Clyde showed up, I can see Maria feeling torn between Luke and Sarah Jane and finally giving that well deserved shove, as you said!

And I've loved her since 1979, and those brash aspects of her have always been there, her passion and indignation and...*mouth* getting away from her before she thinks fully. I think you did a GREAT job showing that, and showing that once she DOES think on what she's said, she recognizes that she's overstepped her own abilities...or thinks she has for a bit. :-)

Yeah, I think Sarah's always had a habit of leaping before looking, from The Time Warrior on - obviously it pays off sometimes, but even in classic Who we see a lot of her going back and forth on her decisions (a la the way she kept threatening to leave the Doctor). Taking on Luke is an even bigger commitment, and after so long alone and what with her major abandonment issues, I think she'd have a really hard time once the initial euphoria wore off. I kind of wish it had been explored a little more on the show, but there's only so angsty you can get on CBBC, I suppose!

That said, she usually leaps into pretty awesome situations, and they certainly worked out in the long run :)

Oh this is really good - definitely picks up on what we missed in the show, which were those awkward moments we KNEW existed! Great job!

Thank you! I loved those awkward moments in the show, but I definitely think there would have been more of them, and probably angstier ones as well. Good thing Maria won't stand for it :)

We definitely missed out on some good awkwardness, and I think people forget that all the alien stuff was new to Maria, on top of the emotional stuff going on with her parents. That was still fresh for her when she moved to Bannerman Rd.

OOOOoooh, I LOVE this. Sarah Jane struggling with mumhood is like my favorite thing ever, and you do it so well...I love how it's a little thing like the bread that's the trigger (feels very real), and how adorable Luke is with his unsureness of what's okay to do. Gah, they are the cutest TV family ever and you capture that early dynamic so perfectly, the awkwardness and the uncertainty. I want to give them both great big hugs.

Thank you very much! I love the idea as well; they so easily could have made her the cozy mum/aunt figure, and I love that they explored her awkwardness and reserve on the show. I just wish there had been a bit more of it, which I guess is where fic comes in!

I want to give them so many hugs. So very many.
