Nice kind of evening feeling.  No more wandering about.  Just loll there: quiet dusk: let everything rip.  Forget.  Talk about places you have been, strange customs.

I have never read a book like Ulysses before.   It is maddening.  I read a dozen pages, swept up in language ("he died of a Tuesday" sends me whirling), then go back and reread the ( Read more... )

What do you mean you can only be young, cocky and heedless once? Are you suggesting all that remains is old, timid and overcautious? Hell, I hope not!

You want to go to New York. So go to New York. If you can take peace with you there, then you can take it anywhere. And if not, hell, play along with the chaos for a while. It's kinda fun. Some of us will miss you, but we'll get over it.

Just remember, if you're way up past Harlem and you're going downtown, you might as well be driving from here to Raleigh.

Yes, but going that Greensboro-to-Raleigh route would involve a train where I get to hang out and read rather than a drive where I am derailed by construction.

And "some of us" sure doesn't mean you, does it? Because if you'll miss me, I could use a ride to the bank.

And as for a ride to the bank, say when.
