I started with Ninth and I'm almost done with the story of the Tenth (End of Time is on my to-watch list) and so even though I've heard he's awesome I'm nervous about the Eleventh doctor disappointing me! At the same time it feels like they've run the course with the story of the Tenth Doctor so it's exciting to see some new blood pumped into the show.
So much of the stuff was really strong at the end of the last series (Doctor Donna and her bittersweet ending, return of Harriet Jones, former Prime Minister, etc) but then there were really lame things (Here's a consolation prize clone-Doctor, Rose!)
I'm not sure about Torchwood, and I've heard mixed things about it, so if you guys have an opinion there as to its necessity or lack thereof I'd love to hear it.
Murderous aliens, Daleks and Cybermen, warriors showering death from above;
Cheerlessly banished to extradimensional limbo by Ten - at the cost of his love.
Blink
Popular character Passer domesticus, temporal oddities leave her aghast;
Threatened by aliens petroangelical, Martha and Ten offer help - from the past.
Parting of the Ways
Friend of humanity, guilt-ridden traveller, timewar survivor, and last of his race,
Unhesitatingly, self-sacrificially saves his belovèd, and changes his face.
The Doctor's Daughter
Born artificially, Jenny of Messaline, backflipping sharpshooter fighting the Hath;
Destined for hopelessness transgenerational, runs with the Doctor and carves her own path.
The Girl in the Fireplace
Polymath courtesan Madame de Pompadour, danger approaches, her angel appears;
Menaced by mannequins horomechanical, wishes denied by the passing of years.
Torchwood is very hit-and-miss. They started off by adding gratuitous sex and violence to make it "edgy" and "not for children", but it just came over
