By British standards, the US presidential campaigning cycle looks insanely long and drawn-out. As a parliamentary democracy, we have nothing exactly comparable with your presidential election; politically, our parliamentary elections are the biggest deal, and the campaigning for those generally lasts around a month.
Probably. My biggest problem with Ron Paul really is he has some views on taking money back to a gold standard which I'm pretty iffy on.
I'm also not totally in the "libertarian" boat because I believe that we need a government that does enact certain safety nets. HOWEVER, if today Gary Johnson was president, he would clearly not be able to turn our country into a libertarian utopia in his tenure. I think a libertarian in office would be able to challenge a lot of what we take for granted, and offer a truly different path from the current two-party choice between government overreach in one direction or another.
