The country has extremely high unemployment and around 35 million impoverished, a war, a city and the surrounding area demolished by hurricane, and a record federal deficit, so something is a little fishy when I'm reading articles like this:

No, actually, the latest unemployment numbers were 4.8%, which is below what most economists consider to be full employment (around 5% unemployment, a level which is considered to be attributable to short-term shifts in the workforce). The currently unemployment level is remarkably low. The economy is in fact growing, just not at the rate that it did when corporations were cooking the books to create fake, paper-only, Internet stock profits. Therefore, it really isn't all that odd that more Americans are doing well.

No one reads my livejournal except one Republican? Just my luck.

Ok, ok, you're right. And now you can go sit by the pool at your country house and be comforted by your statistics! Except of course if your second home is in Iraq, Afghanistan, or New Orleans. But I'm sure your investment banker was smart enough to advise you not to build there.
