I am also buttonhole challenged (and I've been sewing for skatey-eleven years.) The machine made ones rarely turn out nice enough, and while I love the look of bound buttonholes, there is so much that can go wrong beyond the normal spacing and crookedness issues. Lately I've been having some fun challenging myself to find alternatives -- Snaps with buttons sewn over them! Hooks and eyes! Tie strings (like the daisy sundress)! Loops! (but I hate turning tubes too, but I've used rat tail or satin cord, or round elastic or just sew those little kids' hair elastics from Goody into the edge; I've even crocheted them.)
