Five point six

Whee!
It rattled my shelves and furniture all around. I sat here at my 'puter for a moment, mesmerized and having crazy flashbacks (I was in '89, man!!), before I realized that there was a large shelf unit full of glass globes and ceramic curios (oh, and a HATCHET) that was teetering and creaking above my head.
Dig it.

That was a 5.6?? No way, it felt more like a 3! I was in the bafroom, putting on lotion.

Yar, is true, five point six.
Perhaps your lotion was so lovely and soothing that your subjective experience of the earthquake was somehow affected? ^_^

I think I'm just a nonchalant Californian. I was thinking, "eh, if the lights go out or the mirror shatters I might need to stop what I'm doing..."

Yeah, those were my thoughts as well...Most of my anxiety about earthquakes has to do with the sheer pain-in-the-assedness of its effects.
Which admittedly was way worse when I was living up on Weathertop as a kid, and we were without power for 2 weeks plus. No power equals no water, because the well can't pump it. Oh, and the roads were blocked by rockslides so we had to hike in and out. Not to mention the house, while structurally sound, was completely trashed.
So that's why earthquakes freak me out. I don't want to have to DEAL with having my life effectively picked up and shaken like a snowglobe. Scraping honey mixed with broken glass off a wood floor is something I'd like to experience only once in my life.
