The End of a Terrible

Oct 26, 2005 20:55

I figure now's a decent time to update, especially being that I finally have something significant to say.  So here goes: As of today, I notified Dennis at Kinko's of my resignation, effective in two weeks.  As I do with everything, I overthought the entire ordeal.  I played the scene over and over in my head after all was said and done, searching ( Read more... )

The two-weeks is more or less a societal more than anything. It does basically signal that you're done there, as most employers expect people in their two-weeks to stop showing up and such. They're supposed to use it for finding a replacement.

If they tell you you don't need to worry about coming in, it's not them firing you!

Ahh, well that's something of a relief. At least I can still say I've never been fired, then! Thanks so much, Kyle.

Ignore the middle-management fag. Your commitments lie with you, obviously; what's there to think about?

If he's saying you probably "wouldn't have to finish out the whole two weeks," there are multiple possibilities:

1. he would rather give hours to someone else
2. he finds you expendable (and when you're replaced, you're spent and can go)
3. he thinks it's the courteous thing to do (in this case, not bloody likely)

But that isn't to say you were being fired.

Anyway, what you gonna do now for a job?

There are all kinds of jobs on campus, and the fact that they pay less would be somewhat counterbalanced by the fact that taxes are much less for jobs within a university. So... I may explore that, but I don't have a huge need for money for the time being.

I'm really glad you finally made a decision. I know it was getting really hard for you, but now that's over and you don't have to worry about it anymore. I'm kind of pondering my job situation lately too. I'm sure it'll all work out for both of us.

(And Hendy misses you so much that he completely destroyed the garbage bag today.)

Recently I've been missing Hendrix a ridiculous amount. I can't believe it's been more than two months since I've seen him--and Dad, for that matter. Thanksgiving can't come soon enough, I guess.

And the job thing? I don't know if it's over. Alicia called back and told me she wanted to sit down with Dennis and me to try to work something out. So now I have a very crucial decision to make: that is, whether I want to work it out.

I think I do the same thing in antagonistic situations, sir... the last time I was in one I expressed surprise at my employer's assessment of my work but did not argue with him, even though many times I thought over what I could have done instead and wondered if it would have changed anything.

Congratulations on never having been fired.
