You will never have the problem I have of having to apply spin when the product is revealed to have gross inadequacies that the developers refuse to fix. You will be too embarrassed to document it as is, and fix it.
You will always understand what the developer tells you about the software.
And you will never have to bake cookies to get the information out of your source.
You may, however, be too close to the subject matter to realize when you are making inaccurate assumptions about the audience's knowledge. Definitely get a new user to try to use your doc when you think you're done.
And I'm really sorry circumstances did not permit me to be your documenter.
