The Jedi council became the Senate's bitches. They were more for political governments than for what they were supposed to stand for. Such a tragic end for their blindness concerning Palpatine.

Excellent Part 2, Yoda and Antilles see what happened and walk the Temple's desecration. Great descriptions, very chilling.
