Struggling

Feb 06, 2017 20:36

I am having a tough time with writing these days.  I am nearly 6K behind for being on pace for my year goal.  But I wrote some today, so that is good.  I just want to finish the first draft of Spero.

Does anyone else wake up and check the news each morning, wondering if we got into a war or if something else horrid happened over night?

Unfortunately yes I do and it's a giant leech on my creativity.

This morning, eating a late snow day breakfast, my wife and I were making jokes about the newest terror attacks that the administration has made up. One of the kids was like - you shouldn't laugh about that. And we were like - no, you HAVE to laugh at it.

Hugs.

Seriously. I love that the mother of one of the victims of the not-really-terrorist-attack took Trump on, calling him out for making it into something it's not.

Yes. I am, however, going to Marseille and Toulon next week, so I am trying not to worry about things like whether the US borders will be closed even to citizens before I get back.

Sorry for butting in, but Toulon? You would not be trying to do some Les Mis related research while you are there?

I will be on holiday and not doing any research as such but I will certainly be visiting certain Les Mis related places. *g*

Safe is a funny concept these days. But thank you!

I hear you on struggling to write! My current project (which I need to do since it's deadline-sensitive) is fighting me teeth and claws, and I didn't have such a hard time with a story since ages. I hope your muse behaves better now! *hugs*
I was wondering if I should try setting myself a word count goal, too, but what you wrote here makes me reconsider: I know falling behind would frustrate me too much, so I suppose I better don't try it. :o) Do you do it "just" for statistics and such, or does it help you, like, for example, a deadline does?

Last year was my first year trying a word count goal. I joined Get Your Words Out (getyourwordsout) and I picked the lowest goal amount. It gave me a word count goal of 411 words per day, which was very doable for me, on average. Some days I didn't hit it. I had entire weeks of not writing when I was sick, but generally I averaged near my goal.

This year though. It is a combination of just slugging through the end of this rough draft and the news is just so distressing. I generally try hard to believe in the best of people, and I have to say, a lot of people are showing me some amazing things and reason to hope, but I am still having a hard time.

Anyway. I do worry about the word count goal and stressing me out, but on the whole it is good. Right now it is inspiring me to try and get back on track. Even NaNo was good for me and I met the 50K goal. BARELY, but I did it.

Whatever you choose, good luck with your project!
