Review: Doctor Who - 1x02 - 'The End of the World'

So in my line of work (read: obsessive fandom creations) I've always wanted to hop aboard the review train. I like re-watching TV shows and even though my life is not exactly filled with time at the moment and these won't be a regular/weekly thing, I do eventually intend to review all of them. I remember when the show first aired here in the States on 17 March, 2006, (yes, I have an anniversary date for DW. I am lame), they aired "Rose" and "The End of the World" back to back. And while I liked the episode Rose a lot -- I hadn't intended to watch the show and just happened to catch my dad watching it while I was home visiting from uni one weekend -- it was EotW that really got hooked to the series. And The Unquiet Dead made me all out obsessed. But that's a different story ( ... )

Hear via who_daily mostly likely, and likely to stick around for your re-watch, if you don't mind.

It's been a while, but I've watched and re-watched the Ecclestone series quite a few times (the first Tennant series also), and your review is gibes pretty well with what I remember.

I give it a 3.5 rather than a 4 partly just to have a point to start an argument with, but also because Davies' penchant for ignoring the importance of the SF elements bugged me more than it seems to bug you, at least a bit.

"LOWER SUN FILTER" button indeed!

I also think there is a bit of a ... not quite a filler feel to it, but a sense that Davies hadn't yet quite determined his direction. I wonder if at that point he was sure that there was going to be a love story or not?

At the same time, the brave girl who remembered that she got a bronze in gymnastics was very much on display in "The End of the World" even if she didn't get to do a whole lot. Whatever was going on with the love story, Davies really seemed to know what he was doing in terms of giving us a ( ... )
