Apr 08, 2005 01:51

This is my second time, when I happen to be a target of totally unprovoked rant by a cabbie describing his sexual likings and dislikings ( Read more... )

i dunno. i always feel lucky when i get to hear people's confessions/personal stories/etc. because it's interesting stuff, the stuff of life, and a way to temporarily break down the fences that separate each person in society.

it's hard to see why you wouldn't be interested in what he had to say. how often is it that people open up to that extent? so this is like a little glimpse into someone's head.

(i guess it's fair to say that my point of view might be more messed up than yours.)

I think you've misread my post. I did say that I like being as a researcher of an alien mind. But it's a weird situation where I don't choose to perform certain research but it is just imposed on me.
Another interesting point, is that people from "simpler backgrounds" (probably not the best description) disccus sexual and other issues much more freely than me and my friends do. I think they attach less meaning to sex, politics or any other "touchy" subject and thus, can talk freely.

yes, i misread a bit. sorry. ;)

but i was just saying, don't feel like it's an imposition. take it where you can get it. :)

in sociobiology, a fairly weird class to begin with (that i took to avoid taking a "hard" science class) we talked about social behaviors and payoffs. in lots of societies, in the upper class sex/marriage becomes entangled in wealth. marriages become political or economic moves, and a lot more importance is placed on the virtuousness of the class's women, because the children of that woman will be receiving a lot of material investment and it's more important to make sure that the man invests in his own child.

among the poor, on the other hand, a man isn't investing all that much in children and a woman isn't losing much for herself/her family by being promiscuous (in fact, the opposite is true).

so that's one way of looking at it...

then of course there's a question of culture, refinement, whatnot. but in a way, maybe it just comes down to having not much versus much to lose.

Interesting stuff, thank you.
I've just read an article, where a researcher claims that members of different cultures behaviour is much closer to different species beaviour than to behaviour inside the same biological group. Looks like people are more different then it is currently accepted .

Reminds me of a rather dirty анекдот.

Мужик заходит в бордель.
- Мне нужна девушка с большой грудью и маленькой п. . . ой.
- Хорошо, подождите.
Через некоторое время, вызывают:
- Мужчина с большими руками и маленьким х . . . ем, проходите!
