 An Aragonese peasant walks down the road, and meets two travellers who are really St. Peter and Jesus in disguise.

"Where are you going?" asks St. Peter.

"To Zaragoza," says the peasant.

"You should not say that," chides St. Peter.  "You should say, if the good Lord wills it, you are going to Zaragoza."

I react negatively to this story. I think the peasant is an idiot. There is no glory or honor in _unecessary_ determination.

Yeah. I think the original story was intended to show how stubborn the Aragonese peasants were supposed to be. Perhaps I can offer a traditional tale more to your liking ( ... )
