I may have already mentioned this, but did you read Stephen King's short story in Different Seasons called "Graveyard Shift"?

It's about a breed of mice that are stuck underground and -- over years and years -- mutate into sightless, huge, maneating monsters.

This isn't helping, is it?

oh yeah - I remember the title but forgot the storyline. I think I'm confusing that title with another short story, something out of Night Shift?

anyway, yeah - not helping!

it was so odd how it started: this shell of a mouse floated like a leaf down to the floor of the garage. it was flat and empty-like with a cut down it's whole front, which I think came from a Survivorman episode I watched recently in which he cooked a dead squirrel that he caught (so he could eat) and he cut it down the front-side, or under-side, to eat it.
