Yes, that bit about the chocolate cake is priceless, isn't it? And SO Jane. (My comfort food is different -- not better, mind you, just different.)
With the possible exception of Woodrow Wilson, I do believe that, if any US president in the 20th c. was going to make it to sainthood, it would be Carter. Not that he was, sadly, all that effective. There were several others who brought the US forward much more -- FDR, LBJ, even, suprisingly, Nixon. (Can't believe I'm saying that.) But Carter was and still is clearly such a good-hearted man. He brings honor to our country.
Ah, dear fpb, you may be right about his most recent book, which I confess not to have read. I've only read reviews, and trusting those may indeed be unwise. And I still say you flatter me outrageously. What's going on is less goodness than love, with which Jane has at least as much to do with it as I do. And maybe I'm not posting enough of my surly sides, of which I have a fair few.
Eek! Do you get lots of critters, around where you live?
Poor Jane - the trouble she's having with recalling words must be so frustrating, but it's actually a good that she recognises her words aren't coming properly - in some types of aphasia the people don't realise that they're making mistakes, and it's much harder then to come back from that. I'm sure her tip-of-the-tongue syndrome will improve with time, and healing...
Eek! Do you get lots of critters around where you live?Absolutely. Which is one reason we live hear. It's interesting living in an area where you may not be, as a species, the top of the food chain. But having lived for about twenty years on the South Side of Chicago, even when my species is at the top certainly doesn't mean I'm safer. Frankly, I'll trust the bears & mountain lions any day
( ... )
Glad to hear about Jane's continuing improvement. I skimmed over this, because I'm at the hospital and probably not supposed to be doing this, but it sounds like she's making more progress every day.
Hugs to you both, and please say hello to the bear for me. (Or better still, take a picture.)
Right after I posted it it, Jane came down our circular stairs -- she's just beginning to do this alone. She asked what I was doing, and I read her your email. Initially, she had trouble remembering, but after a few minutes of reminding what we did when you came, it all came back.
:) Those hotsprings are bound to jog her memory, aren't they? They're the one part of our trip that I have absolutely no pictures of, and yet stand out in my memory as possibly the best part. For an Aussie, sitting in a hot creek with snow on the banks and northern stars overhead is pretty memorable.
So good to read your posts and know the improvement is continuing. Any time you both get discouraged, just think back a couple of months, and thank both God and your lucky stars. You'll both make it through this because of your tremendous love for each other. I love you both. God bless and goodnight dear Avus. Hugs to Jane.
Many thanks, dearest Kate. Today while cleaning up, I ran across a few posts -- one a month ago, within a few days of Jane returning to our cabin; and another six weeks ago, while Jane was still in the rehab hospital, this shortly after I moved in with her.
I found it was both reassuring, and a bit overwhelming. I wound up skimming them both. Yes, someday, Jane & I will go through them all, along with the comments. But for right now -- it's enough to know the improvements are great, and her improving is long-standing and fairly steady, though not predictable.
All good wishes to you, your family, particularly your grandchildren, and your beloved.
Hugs back to you.
P.S. Jane stood over my shoulder as I wrote this, and is enchanted someone she's never met could care so much. It very much pleased her, and made her feel supported.

And I really like the way the two of you are talking to each other.
Big hugs

I read a similar article about Jimmy Carter a year or so back. I love that man!

However, that has nothing to do with my reaction to your posts, which is: when my bad time comes, may God send me someone half as good as you.

Hope things go well with you & yours.

I don't say hello bears.
I kiss them.
Hugs returned to you & Mike, along with all good wishes.

What finally brought it back?
The hotsprings at Buena Vista, of course.
She returns the hugs.
