Harvey hadn't wanted to go on a blind date - it sounded so cliche and he was backlogged with work, as usual - but Jim kept reminding him that he needed to get out more, so he agreed. That evening, however, Harvey's mind was not on impressing a date, but on finishing preparations for a huge trial that started the next day. Just one more file, he kept telling himself. When he finally looked up at the clock, it was nearly an hour and a half past when he should've been meeting Gilda.
"Crap." Well, he blew that one. He'd apologize to Jim later and ask him to pass it on. With a sigh, Harvey rubbed his eyes. After staring at papers for so long, he had the beginnings of a headache.
Might as well wrap it up for the night, he thought, and began putting some of the files in his briefcase. As his stomach rumbled, Harvey realized that while he definitely wanted a drink, he needed food as well. When he exited the District Attorney's Office a few minutes later, he decided to head to the restaurant where the date was supposed to have taken place

Gilda finished off the mozzarella stick she'd been eating, completely with marina sauce of course, and looked over at the man. He was probably waiting for a date, but that was no reason not to be friendly.
"I don't know how someone can drink straight liquor," she said. She smiled. "My dad likes his gin just plain. I have to have a lot of tonic to make it go down."
Gilda chuckled slightly. She started to remark that she hoped he didn't plan on having too many, but she checked herself. This was a stranger, not her father. What was meant as a light bit of advice might come off as an insult.
