Another experiment. Strange, I could've sworn it felt real. Arthur'll be glad that he missed that one. He doesn't have such good luck with love spells.

[Merlin laughs--to himself, for the benefit of others? It's unclear. Arthur's absence has become a part of normality and in such a small village, he can almost imagine being back in Ealdor. It's ( Read more... )

Is that so?

[Merlin thinks he had some luck.]

Love is an extraordinary powerful thing. People have no right interfering with its progress.

I suppose that's probably right. But now that it's been fixed, it's all better. Right?

So...the love spell made you fall in love with someone that you were already in love with.

[It seems like the only option left, for him. After all. That's what he's feeling.]

Love spells are generally gambles anyway, for any managed happily ever after you can bet there's a bad ending storming around somewhere.

I've only seen them when they were cast for bad reasons.

Probably because most love spells are cast by the insidious and uninformed.

I don't know a lot about love but I know my spells. Love is a tricky emotion to manipulate, like any state of the mind. The time when they're cast is usually most important for them to be effective, considering their convenience lies in being temporary more often than not.

[In about two hours' time, Merlin returns home. He drops his canvas bags on the floor of the apartment, just inside the door. It's making quite a lot of racket.]

[ Fina emerges from Arthur's room once she hears the din Merlin is causing and wanders over. She blinks at the bags strewn around the floor. ]

Can I help you with anything?

Well--I've tried.

[Setting some of that load down, now.] How have you been?
