ESC 2009 ranking: Semifinal 1

May 03, 2009 17:51

Wohoo! Only a bit over week for ESC! Here is the first part of my eurovision ranking, the first semifinal. The points are the Finnish school numbers 4-10. Roughly it means: 9 - goodness area, 8 - liking-limit, 7 - boredom area, 6 - headache area. Best are mentioned first, worst are mentioned last. Best ones with links. Enjoy! :)

hey , but our tastes do not differ that much ;)
Yes I forgot to mention Portugal in my post. I liked it also but then sth is missing (for me it is on the same level as Estonia which I also quite like).

Many Slovenians like Israel. I have listened to it only once (because it did not catch mÿ attention the first time)...maybe I should give it another try.

I am not surprised about your negative opinion on CZ. Unfortunately, majority of ppl will have the same opinion as you. I knew it in advance. As I said, try giving them another chance

Usually I don't like Isreal's style of sending these "peace to the world" songs to ESC. But this year's song is somehow much better and I like the fact how the Palestinian singer sings in Hebrew and the Israeli/Jewish singer sings in Arabic! Those languages also sound very cool... :)

Karkki, you should hear the ESC entry of The Netherlands. Oh my... There are good peace songs and not so good ones.

I've noticed that for some reason I often like the songs Israel, Turkey and Norway send to ESC. Also the Balkan countries manage quite well. There's probably some kind of national taste in every country and probably these ones match best with mine+Finnish taste. :)

I've noticed that on the first listening even GREAT songs don't always get noticed. Like Molitva and my current ESC 2009 favourite... (And when hearing Kabát for the first time I was just like "whaat???") That's why every song should be given at least those two tries. Too bad that in the contest the song has to impress on first listening. That's why it's good that there are semifinals. Would be interesting to know how many people actually listen to the songs before the contest. I'd guess the ones who vote the most have found out their favourite already before the contest evening. I've listened every song at least about 5 times, at that point you start finding good features in every song. ;)

I think the second semi has 2-3 bright gems, but it also has more crappy songs than the first semi. :D It really puzzles me who's gonna win... can't wait to see these live on stage.
