[For Chuck]

One of the nice things about Chuck living with them was that Devon didn't have to really go anywhere when he needed to talk to him. (And, well, sure there were those moments when Chuck maybe sort of caught him and Ellie in inappropriate moments, but those were rare. Ish ( Read more... )

And those rare-ish moments were one of the reasons that Chuck was actually starting to think about moving out once Aweomse and Ellie got married. Sure, Sarah's empty hut was right there nearby, but Chuck just couldn't see himself living there. He didn't even know if he'd live on the same side of the island anymore.

When Awesome knocked on Chuck's door frame, he was reading through a book, brushing up on his programming languages. Maybe he was planning to program an island version of Zork. Maybe he wasn't.

Maybe he was just really, really bored.

"Yeah-- yeah, sure," Chuck said, "What's up?"

At least this was nowhere near as nerve wracking as asking Chuck for Ellie's hand, or asking Ellie to marry him in the first place. It was all kinda smooth going from here, like the best part about hang gliding.

"Hey, so, Ellie and I have been talking," Devon started, figuring he might s well just get it done, "about wedding stuff, you know. Figuring things out. And I know you'll be giving Ellie away, but I wanted to know if you'd do double duty and be my best man."

Chuck really was the closest thing to family Devon had on the island anymore, and he couldn't think of anyone else he really wanted up there.

Chuck hadn't really talked to Ellie about it, but it was something he'd kind of assumed-- that he'd be the one to give her away. Devon asking him to be his best man, however, wasn't really something he'd anticipated.

"Oh, wow," Chuck said, a little surprised to be asked. He blinked a few times. "I really don't know what to say...are-- are you sure you wouldn't rather have one of your football buddies do it?"

Devon frowned a little, unsure why Chuck would ask that. It wasn't like he'd really made the kind of friends with someone here that he'd like to stand up there with him, and he really did want Chuck to. "No? I mean, I like the guys - and girls - and all, but they're not really best man material."
